Another J and J talc cancer compensation victory

There has been yet another J & J talc cancer compensation victory which has seen a damages claim settle for some £3m. The Judge in the case reportedly ruled that J & J must pay the victim £3m in punitive damages over asbestos in its talcum powder products.

Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson (J & J) and their supplier have been hit with a wave of cases where victims are claiming that their asbestos-related cancer is being caused as a direct result of their talc powder products. Although J & J and their supplier refute the claims, there have been a number of settlements to date.

It is understood that the £3m talc cancer compensation claim succeeded on the basis that J & J have acted with “malice”, given that they have apparently been aware of the dangers of their talc products for years, but allegedly covered the dangers up. The talc product is reportedly mined in close proximity to asbestos which is where cross-contamination has reportedly stemmed from, and experts have commented on the actions and supported the case.

This latest talc cancer compensation victory came just a day after another victim was reportedly awarded over £16m in damages for their own asbestos-related cancer that they claimed was caused by J & J talcum powder.

A number of victims are claiming that they have been exposed to asbestos that their talcum powder product has been contaminated with, and the prolonged exposure (lifelong, in many instances) has led to asbestos-related illnesses like mesothelioma, which is a deadly an aggressive cancer that can be caused by just minor exposure to asbestos. It’s understood that even tiny amounts of asbestos creeping into the products has led those who have used the products for years to be exposed.

We continue to follow the settlements and the progression of the numerous talc cancer compensation cases taking place against J & J. We have already covered a number of developments and it’s a story we continue to closely monitor.
