Thousands more affected by the TalkTalk data breach

The information for thousands more victims of the 2015 TalkTalk data breach incident have been found online as the number of victims expands.

We’re representing a group of victims who are claiming for data breach compensation who were affected by the TalkTalk hack of 2015. This is one of the over 40 different group and multi-party actions we’re fighting for justice in on a No Win, No Fee basis.

If you are one of the additional 4,545 victims of the incident, or if you were notified previously and you’ve yet to start your case, make sure you contact us ASAP.

Additional victims of the 2015 TalkTalk data breach

The information for an additional 4,545 victims of the 2015 TalkTalk data breach has been found online, widening the original breach that affected over 155,000.

TalkTalk said:

“A recent investigation has shown that 4,545 customers may have received the wrong notification regarding this incident. This was a genuine error and we have since written to all those impacted to apologise.”

Information found online for the additional affected victims includes:

  • Full names;
  • Postal and email addresses;
  • Telephone numbers;
  • Customer numbers;
  • Bank account data.

This is enough information for people to fall victim to fraud. We know many people have been contacted by scammers who are claiming to be TalkTalk, and they’re armed with personal information and TalkTalk account data that’s believed to have been obtained from the original attack.

An unsurprising development

In our view, this is an unsurprising development. Some of the people that we have helped were told that they weren’t affected by the original TalkTalk data breach incident, despite being contacted by scammers.

It now appears that those people may have been affected all along and it was a case that TalkTalk had inadvertently told them they weren’t involved in the attack.

In some cases, it can be impossible to know for sure just how many people are definitely affected. For all we know, there may be more victims identified in the future as well.
