The Mercedes Emissions Action for compensation

The Mercedes Emissions Action for compensation is extremely important. It is designed to hold Mercedes accountable if it is established that they have been cheating emissions testing.

Right now, parent company Daimler deny that they have done anything wrong. However, Mercedes began a ‘voluntary service action’ in 2017, recalling thousands of cars for software updates relating to engine management systems and emissions. So far, around 3 million diesel vehicles are thought to have been involved.

The Group Action Lawyers are experts in bringing together Group Action Claims, where a large number of affected victims, sometimes millions, come together to bring a joint legal case forward where similar issues arise. In this case, Daimler/Mercedes is the defendant, and we want to help fight for justice for owners for it if transpires that they have been breaking the law.

About the Mercedes Emissions Scandal

The Mercedes emissions scandal involves dozens of diesel models. It is alleged that these vehicles contain ‘defeat devices’ that have been installed to cheat emissions tests.

Daimler deny that they have cheated tests and deny that they have done anything wrong.

Defeat devices could be software that can sense when the vehicle is being tested and can put the vehicle into a temporary state where emissions-reducing technology can be engaged. This is based on the technology that VW has been found to have been using. This means that the defeat device can make the vehicles look cleaner than they really are, and they can pass the European emissions regulations. However, once on the road, the device can mean that emissions-reducing technology is disengaged, and the vehicle can then produce illegal amounts of toxic emissions.

The emissions released from vehicles include the extremely dangerous NOx gas. Nitrogen Oxide, or NOx as it is commonly known, can have both a damaging impact on the environment and can cause adverse long-term health effects for humans. That is why it is so important for vehicle manufacturers to follow the emissions regulations put in place, and to not cheat them; aside from the obvious moral issues this creates. In built-up areas like cities, in which increased emissions from heavy traffic can have a far more damaging effect on the population, the need for limits is essential.
