If you’re affected by the Bard mesh recall, is there any immediate danger, or is there any action that you need to take?
We can’t say that we’re surprised by the news of the recall. We’ve been advising women for years who have suffered problems and complications that have stemmed from being fitted with a vaginal mesh device. We’re also representing women who are making mesh implant compensation claims.
The company has initiated a recall and has immediately ceased production and distribution in Europe as a result of not wanting to invest further resources in evolving regulations. So, what does this mean for the patients?
The actions to take following the bard mesh recall, according to the company, is for remaining unused units to be quarantined by healthcare organisations.
A patient information leaflet has also been produced.
Patients themselves are not being advised that they require any additional follow-up care or treatment. It appears that, at this stage, there’s no need for revision surgery or any additional medical intervention.
However, anyone who does suffer pain and complications should of course seek urgent medical attention as soon as they can.
In a letter from the company – C.R. Bard (Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD)) – they say:
“BD is committed to advancing the world of health. Our primary objectives are patient and user safety and providing you with quality products. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you and thank you in advance for helping us to execute this product removal as quickly and effectively as possible.”
This affects their devices used to treat POP (pelvic organ prolapse) and SUI (stress urinary incontinence).
If you’re a patient who’s affected by the Bard mesh recall, there appears to be no need to worry, unless you’re suffering problems of course.
What we will say, however, is that anyone who is suffering problems and complications for any form of mesh implant device should seek urgent medical advice and should also speak to us as soon as possible. We’re representing women who are claiming for mesh implant complications having suffered problems.
With some women being left unable to walk or work ever again, access to justice is important. You can read more about mesh implant compensation claims on our advice page here.
