In a huge win for anyone harmed by medicines or medical devices, the government has agreed to the appointment of an Independent Patients’ Commissioner. Their role will be to stand up for people who have fallen victim to the dangerous side-effects of certain medical products.
At The Group Action Lawyers, we have been raising the unheard voices of suffering patients for many years, taking on many clients in large group and multi-party actions against powerful medical companies and manufacturers. As such, we welcome the news of this new public service, which represents a significant step in the right direction for patients and overall safety.
In July last year, the ‘First Do No Harm’ report was published by the Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety (IMMDS) Review. The report powerfully argued for the need for tighter regulations on medical products, highlighting how the government’s perceivably weak restrictions had failed patients over the years.
In fact, it has often taken the brave testimonies of people harmed by medicines or medical devices for these issues to be made in public. Many have spoken out on the issues that we represent people for. From the PIP breast implant scandal that came to light in 2012, to the still ongoing vaginal mesh issues that have affected women worldwide, the voices of victims can act as the champions for change.
This is even more important when many victims of these issues feel that they have been dismissed by healthcare professionals and the government. There is still much work to do to make sure that patients are always protected from harm when it comes to these kinds of issues.
At The Group Action Lawyers, we have witnessed first-hand the reluctance of medical businesses to admit fault for their dangerous products and the suffering that they have caused. While the government’s restrictions continue to be weak, there is sometimes only one way to have your suffering legally recognised: by making a compensation claim.
Our expertise in group action and multi-party claims against medical companies is illustrated by our years of experience. We represented clients in the landmark PIP breast implant group action, recovering £1.2 million in damages (and counting) for faulty implants that affected thousands of women worldwide.
We have also taken forward actions for clients who have suffered as a result of hernia mesh implants, vaginal mesh implants, and metal-on-metal hip implants, to name just a few. We could list more, but the most important thing to highlight is that we are always on high alert for new reports of faulty. devices and drugs.
If you are one of the many people who has been harmed by medicines or medical devices, you can trust that we will listen to you and support you through the claim process.
If you have suffered as a result of dangerous medicines or medical devices, you may be eligible to claim compensation. This could be for poor advice from a doctor, or perhaps the dangerous practices of a surgeon or even the medical product manufacturer themselves.
We understand that it can feel like your voice isn’t being heard, so we promise to fight for the compensation you deserve. Claim today to hold the government, medical companies and your doctors to account.
