Dangerous vitamin and mineral supplements

Are vitamin and mineral supplements pointless and potentially dangerous? Some experts think they are. What does this mean for users?

An American study claims that some vitamin and mineral supplements don’t provide for any health benefits to the user at all. Worse still, their research also suggested that some may actually increase the risks of death. Some may also be problematic for people with particular conditions, like diabetes.

In an age where health and beauty are important, are being people ripped off? Are some people even being put in danger?

Pointless vitamin and mineral supplements?

The study indicated that taking some vitamin and mineral supplements are practically pointless. They offer no health benefits whatsoever.

This begs the question: are people being ripped off with these products?

The research found that some multivitamin supplements, and those for vitamin C and D, and calcium, had no benefit at all. Those taking them to prevent things like heart attacks, strokes and premature death are perhaps not being benefitted in any way.

What about dangerous vitamin and mineral supplements?

Perhaps worse than pointless vitamin and mineral supplements are those that might be dangerous.

Some niacin and antioxidants reportedly showed sings they could be harmful and may lead to a very small increased risk of death from any cause.

Worrying.

Some have been known to raise blood sugar levels, which could of course be dangerous for diabetics. Anyone with a condition they manage may be inadvertently causing some problems, and most wouldn’t think simple vitamin and mineral supplements could be dangerous.

What do we do instead of taking vitamin and mineral supplements?

Instead of taking potentially pointless or dangerous vitamin and mineral supplements, we should all just eat right; apparently.

That’s the simple key.

What we should also consider is that some of these products are not very well regulated. This can especially be the case for those bought online.

People need to be careful. In America, there are already group action cases over misleading products and potentially dangerous products. If the UK needs to follow suit, we’ll be ready to step in and help the masses!
