As pioneers of car emissions litigations, we have been taking on diesel emissions claims since 2015, the year when the news of the Volkswagen “dieselgate” scandal broke. Since then, it has emerged that a number of other car manufacturers may also have allegedly installed defeat devices in their cars to potentially cheat emissions testing.
We have recently launched a new wave of emissions group actions in an effort to see that as many affected car owners as possible can claim the compensation they deserve if allegations are proven to be true. Although many of the allegations remain unproven, we have taken it upon ourselves to broaden our emissions investigations to ensure that no stone is left unturned. To achieve real justice, it is essential that all breaches of consumers’ rights are accounted for where they have taken place.
In fact, we have aimed to make our emissions claims accessible to all by offering No Win, No Fee representation to all eligible claimants. Anyone affected by the car emissions scandals can register their claims with us online today, or contact our team for complementary advice.
The allegations in summary
Although the allegations vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, in essence, the suspected carmakers have been accused of allegedly manipulating vehicles in order to cheat emissions tests. In particular, a large number of manufacturers are suspected of allegedly installing illegal defeat devices in their engines, which could allow vehicles to “recognise” that they are undergoing emissions testing. In response, the cars could then bring emissions output under control and in compliance with regulatory limits, yet they could be free to break these limits when being driven in real-world conditions.
The controversy of the emissions scandal is twofold. On the one hand, cheating emissions tests means that many diesel vehicles may have been hugely exacerbating pollution levels, emitting far more NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions than we previously understood. On the other hand, any car manufacturers that have cheated emissions test may be responsible for a huge breach of consumer rights, as it could be argued that they likely led their customers to believe that their vehicles were compliant with emissions standards. Those who have been deceived in this way, if that is found to be the case, may be able to make diesel emissions claims.
Our diesel emissions claims for compensation
Alongside our established actions against the likes of Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Renault, Fiat, Mercedes, and Porsche, we have initiated diesel emissions claims against the following manufacturers:
- Honda
- Hyundai
- Kia
- Jeep
- Citroën
- Ford
- Mitsubishi
- Peugeot
- Alfa Romeo
- BMW
- Suzuki
- Vauxhall
- Volvo
Again, carmakers accused of allegations refute that they have done anything wrong. Our investigations will get to the bottom of whether this is the case or not. We have yet to definitively ascertain whether any of these manufacturers have broken consumer law. Based on our current understanding, we believe that there is enough weight behind the allegations to bring diesel emissions claims against these manufacturers and investigate the allegations made.
