As one of the first law firms to take on claims against Volkswagen in England and Wales, we went on to pioneer car emissions litigation, initiating group actions against a number of other car manufacturers. Now, we have initiated a number of emissions compensation actions against carmakers who have also become embroiled in emissions allegations.
In 2015, it emerged that Volkswagen vehicles may have been emitting far more toxic NOx (nitrous oxide) than was first believed. Carmakers are bound by strict emissions regulations, but it seemed that Volkswagen had been using so-called defeat devices, a type of software installed in engines as a means of disguising the true emissions output of its diesel vehicles.
While Volkswagen has been found guilty of using defeat devices, thus far, we believe there is sufficient information for us to investigate many car manufacturers in respect of emissions cheating. If the allegations are proven, more car manufacturers may not only have broken emissions regulations, but they may also have breached consumer law. If you own or previously owned an affected vehicle, you can register for an emissions compensation claim today to seek the justice you deserve.
The allegations against car manufacturers
The news of the Volkswagen “dieselgate” scandal first broke in 2015, when it emerged that testing had identified the potential use of defeat device technology in the carmaker’s diesel vehicles. It is believed that vehicles fitted with this software can detect when they are undergoing emissions tests, allowing them to reduce NOx emissions output to meet regulatory standards. In reality, they were still emitting way more dangerous pollutants.
A number of other car manufacturers have since also then been investigated over emissions allegations, with various forms of independent testing and legal investigations being pursued by different authorities. In a number of cases, offices have been raided for documents in order to establish whether the manufacturers deliberately deceived regulators and costumers over emissions output.
Join our emissions compensation actions
We continue to pursue our existing emissions compensation actions against the likes of Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Renault, Fiat, and Vauxhall. There are more carmakers that we are taking claims on for, including (but not limited to):
- Citroen;
- Peugeot;
- BMW;
- Honda;
- Ford;
- Alfa Romeo;
- Kia;
- Hyundai;
- Mitsubishi;
- Jeep;
- Volvo;
- Suzuki.
Our investigations into car manufacturers remain ongoing, so we are still working toward establishing exactly which vehicles may be affected. At the moment, we are taking on claims for diesel vehicles produced by a number of manufacturers that were first registered between 2007 to 2020.
No Win, No Fee representation
As specialists in consumer claims and group actions, we strongly believe in the importance of promoting access to justice, which is why we are offering No Win, No Fee representation to all eligible claimants.
There is strength in numbers, and the more people join our emissions compensation actions, the stronger the force we can present against carmakers.
Having initiated High Court proceedings against Volkswagen, and having been appointed to the Steering Committee responsible for the overall conduct of the Group Litigation Order, we have played a key role in emissions litigation since the beginning.
