Our work in group and multi-party action claims

Our work in group and multi-party actions dates back over a decade, and includes some of the most infamous events and scandals to have ever taken place in the UK and, indeed, around the world.

One of the most recent huge medical scandals was that of the PIP breast implants scandal that hit the media headlines at the end of 2011. We represented hundreds of people affected by the PIP issues, and have recovered over £1.3m in damages for our clients so far. We continue to represent a small number of people whose claims remain ongoing in some of the UK actions, and for some of those being represented in France.

One of the biggest NHS recalls in history was that of the Daybrook Dental Surgery incident involving former dentist Desmond D’mello. We succeeded in settling a number of claims for compensation, and we may have been the only firm to recover damages for clients. We know of another firm that was representing individuals but later went on to close their cases, as we understand. We continued fighting hard to make sure that as many of our clients as possible could recover damages.

One of the biggest scandals of all time is “Dieselgate” that arose in September 2015. We have been at the forefront of the fight for justice here in the UK, as the first law firm in England and Wales to issue High Court proceedings against VW in January 2016. We continue to represent thousands of people engaged in claims against dozens of carmakers, and we were previously appointed to the steering committee of the VW litigation that settled last year.

In recent times, a significant number of the group and multi-party action claims that we have launched are for data breaches. From the TalkTalk hack of 2015 and 56 Dean Street Clinic leak of the same year, to the major Equifax hack of 2017, the British Airways cyberattacks of 2018, and the monumental Virgin Media data leak discovered in 2020, this is a particular area of law that we have a lot of expertise in. We represent thousands of people engaged in group actions and multi-party cases for data breaches as we continue to fight for their rights to justice.

No Win, No Fee access to justice

At the Group Action Lawyers, we firmly believe in access to justice. This is why we can represent people engaged in our group and multi-party actions on a No Win, No Fee basis when they are eligible.

Working this way takes away one of the biggest stresses and worries that people may have when they start to look at claiming, which is what happens if the claim does not succeed. Our No Win, No Fee way of working means that we can write off our legal fees if the claim does not succeed, subject to the agreed terms and conditions in place.
